A bit of sewing

So, I've tackled a new bit of clothing for my husband. It is taken from The King's Servants, by Caroline Johnson. I'm making a pair of hose, a doublet and a coat. So far it proves interesting because I have to wait after each new step to see if it will fit Richard.

I have also been tackling the issue of Pentathalon in 2012 and what to do. I think I have a new task that involves embroidery, sorta.

So Pentathalon is now long over with. I received 2 first place and 3 second place awards.

The first place awards were on the period construction clothing and the fish trap. That silly fish trap!! People can't get enough of it and I find that a bit funny. It was such a common thing back in the day and so obvious, that the thought of seeing one set folks all a twitter!

I had made a new set of clothing to wear for the event and got many positive comments and was told that not only was the clothing good, but I looked the part! So......

I know I am talking to myself but I have begun to delve into the common woman's clothing of the early 16th century. Just what would the Gude Wife have worn?

I've not been here because I have been working on my six Pentathlon projects related to the 14th century in England. So far I have completed/made and documented:

A collection of cooking and storage pots.

I made felt and turned that into a pair of slippers, and they are so yummy to wear.

A recipe from the Forme of Cury-the first ever recorded cook book.

A fish trap.

A complete mens set of clothing, sewn by hand.

And I'm in the process of writing a research paper to top it all off.

Been a little buzy... Pentathlon is in March 2011 and I should be finished soon with the paper since it must be turned in by Jan. 29, 2011.
